The Grand Wagoneer L’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Armada doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Grand Wagoneer L has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Armada doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Nissan Armada has not been tested.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer L’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Nissan Armada does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the Grand Wagoneer L and the Armada have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

There are over 2 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Grand Wagoneer L’s warranty.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Grand Wagoneer L has a standard 830-amp battery. The Armada’s 760-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

Regenerative brakes improve the Grand Wagoneer L REEV’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Armada doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L uses regular unleaded gasoline (mid-grade octane recommended for maximum performance). The Armada NISMO requires premium, which can cost on average about 35.1 cents more per gallon.

The Grand Wagoneer L has 6.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the Armada (30.5 vs. 23.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Grand Wagoneer L’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Armada SV’s standard 70 series tires. The Grand Wagoneer L’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Armada Platinum Reserve/NISMO’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Grand Wagoneer L has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Armada SV.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Grand Wagoneer L’s wheelbase is 8.9 inches longer than on the Armada (130 inches vs. 121.1 inches).

The front grille of the Grand Wagoneer L uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Armada doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Grand Wagoneer L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Armada doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Grand Wagoneer L has 17.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Armada (179.3 vs. 161.6).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Grand Wagoneer L easier. The Grand Wagoneer L’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 34 inches, while the Armada’s liftover is 36.2 inches.

Maximum trailer towing in the Nissan Armada is limited to 8500 pounds. The Grand Wagoneer L 4x4 offers up to a 9860 lbs. towing capacity.

The Grand Wagoneer L 4WD with optional equipment can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Grand Wagoneer L can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Armada can’t be towed flat on the ground.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Armada SL/NISMO/Platinum/PRO-4X, the Grand Wagoneer L Summit has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, foot pedal distance, outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Grand Wagoneer L’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Armada does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Grand Wagoneer L’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Armada’s power window and power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Grand Wagoneer L’s headlights were rated “Good” to “Acceptable” by the IIHS, while the Armada’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Grand Wagoneer L offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Armada doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Grand Wagoneer L to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Armada doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Grand Wagoneer L’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Nissan only offers heated mirrors on the Armada SL/Platinum/PRO-4X/NISMO.

The Grand Wagoneer L has standard front air conditioned seats and the Grand Wagoneer L Summit offers them optionally in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Armada doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The Grand Wagoneer L has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Armada SL/NISMO/Platinum/PRO-4X.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer L has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the driver’s visor. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Nissan charges extra for Homelink® on the Armada and isn’t available on the Armada SV/SL.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Armada SL/NISMO/Platinum/PRO-4X offers wireless charging.

The Grand Wagoneer L’s optional ParkSense Automated Parking can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling the transmission and speed with the brake pedal. With its available fully controlled system, the driver just activates it and it parks autonomously, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Armada doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Jeep Wagoneer outsold the Nissan Armada by almost four to one during 2024.
